James Mattsson

James | Mattsson, (66) of Eagan, MN. died September 16, 2011 of prostate cancer.. Jim is survived by his wife of40 years, L a u r a Cumming, his sons, Brady (Tina). and M o n t e (Britt): his grandchildren, Kelly and piper. Also. Survived by his siblings, Richard, Mary Lou (Chuck). David (Mary) and Donn (Kathy). In his youth. lim was always Interested ln the natural world & even became an adventurous cowboy in Glacier national park. He earned a master’s degree at St. Cloud University studying the American Bald Eagle. After a career with the U.S. Fish and wildlife service. Jim pursued his passions as a blrder, a hunter, & a finger-picking guitar player. Jim traveled all over the U.S.A. & the world: Belize, Costa Rica, Mexico, Ecuador, India, south Africa, Peru, & Australia in pursuit of seeing birds. Last November he saw his 2,500th bird, the Red-browed Finch. This summer Jim was presented the Thomas Sadler Roberts memorial Award for his outstanding contribution to ornithology & Minnesota birding. To know Jim was to love him for his sincerity, wit, & generosity. He was well-grounded, dependable. & extremely fun to be with. Jim will be most ardently missed by his family 8. all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at open Circle church, 2400 Highland Drive, Burnsvllle Sunday, sept 25th at 3 p.m. The family requests donations be made in James Mattsson's name to the Hospice Foundation. 6500 Excelsior Blvd., Hopkins MN 55426.
