In Memory

Mary Lofquist (Yanchar)

Mary Lillian (Lofquist) Yanchar

Yanchar, Mary Lillian (nee Lofquist) Mary Yanchar died peacefully Monday, April 10th, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on December 27th, 1944, in Minneapolis Minnesota, to Dr. Lloyd H and Lillian (Holm) Lofquist. She grew up having adventures with her brother Mark, enjoyed scrambling up a tree with a book, being gone for hours along Minnehaha Creek, and befriending people and animals alike. Mary graduated from Southwest High School in Minneapolis and attended the University of Minnesota before marrying Joseph James Yanchar (Jack) on October 2, 1965. Together they raised three children, Chris (Christine), Tony and Terry. Mary supported her family with love as they traveled the country and world as an Army Officer's wife. Together they guided the family to celebrate nature, other cultures and be good humans. Mary was an avid gardener and was kind to frogs. She loved following her children in their vocations and interests, becoming a follower of several racing series (Chris), Western mycology (Tony) and being a true friend to her daughter's friends (Terry). A committed Minnesota Vikings fan, she was known to blow a horn after every score. Her greatest love of all was her grandson, Søren. She often spoke of how her heart grew after he was born. She had a special connection to cousins Sherry (Wade) Little, Meredith Grierson and Sarah Grierson-Dale. Many rascally memories were made. She is survived by her children, grandson, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Mary is preceded in death by her husband Jack, parents, parents-in-law, brother Mark, sister-in-law Deborah Lofquist and brother-in-law Mike Bari. Memorials preferred to Valley Friendship Club: valleyfriendshipclub.org/ . A graveside service will be held at Ft. Snelling on Tuesday, April 18th at 9:45 AM, with lunch to follow in Afton Minnesota. OakwoodFuneral.com
